The Process Of Working With Cuyler

Hey, so maybe you've decided I'm the guy that can help you. I know a lot about marketing. I know copywriting.

That's my specialty, and I have a process that I go through to make sure that the copy I write, and the strategies I suggest for your business will be appropriate and successful.

So, I just don't take on clients and they say “hey, write this copy and send it to me”. I just don’t work that way, because if I do that, I have no idea where it's going to fit into your strategy.

Maybe you don't really understand marketing strategy, in the way that I do. It's just not going to work if I just throw you some copy and you slap it wherever you want. It's going to fail.

So I have a process to make sure that the copy I write is going to be used in a very specific way. Targeted to a very specific market. Target market, target customers and clients.

So, that depending on where they're at in their journey, from not knowing who you are, to purchasing your services or product, when that copy’s placed in that journey, it's geared towards that part of the journey and to that target client.

So, this is how I work. You decide, “Okay, I want to work with Cuyler”. Oh, that's great. That's great. I obviously - I like new clients, right.

It's good for me. I like to help other businesses grow their revenue and sales. So, but the thing is, I need to make sure that we're a good fit. I'm not going to take your money and waste your time.

If I don't think I can help you its, first of all, it's bad for me if my reputation just goes down the drain when things don't work out, and it's not good for you, and so, we need to make sure we're a good fit.

So how do we decide that? So, the first thing that I need you to do is fill out my client intake questionnaire. And this questionnaire is going to ask questions about the target market that you want to get in front of.

And then, it's going to ask questions about you, and why you offer what you offer, and why you - your message, who you are, the brand that you're trying to portray.

And then, we're going to talk about the offer you're going to make. So, the offer needs to be targeted to your target clients.

So, those three things I need to know: Who are the people you're trying to get in front of? Who are you? And what is your offer?

And once I know that, then I can look at that and say, “You know what? I think I can help you.” Or, maybe I can’t. But, I need that to know up front.

That way, we're not getting on calls and wasting each other's time to figure this out. I can kind of, you know, I can tell that before we even start.

So, that's the first step. The intake client questionnaire. And that form you can find below this video on my website.

My email should be right in the form. I'll get that, I'm going to look at it. I'm going to message you back. And, if you are a good fit, then we're going to move on to our first road mapping session.

It's like a strategy session. So, what in this session we're going to do is talk about everything I learned in your intake form.

And then we're going to talk about how do we proceed? What type of marketing is going to be the best for you?

Now, there's still a lot to do after this strategy session. I have to do some customer research.

But, the strategy session’s to figure out how we're going to work together. What strategies are we going to try to put in place?

And then, once we kind of get what you want and get that all down on in a plan, I will then send you a proposal and the proposal is where I'll say, ”Okay, this is all the work that's going to be required and here's my fee”.

So, that is in that road mapping session, it does have a fee associated with it. I don't work for free, even in my road mapping sessions.

So, it's going to be two hours long, $300. So, we can talk and work this out. Because, if I took on every person that wanted to have a road mapping session with me, I’d just be doing that all day and not making any money.

So, sorry, I do have to charge for my time. Okay, so that is required. My road mapping session does have a fee.

So, but in that session, we're going to figure out everything that we need to do, and then I'll get the proposal together. Send the proposal to you, and if everything is all cool on your end, everything’s all cool on my end, we get all signed.

Agreements are made, and then we start working together. So, during the process while we're working together, there's going to be some consultation back and forth.

Because, that's another thing, like I said, I'm not a copywriter that you just give me an assignment, and I just write some copy, give it to you, and let you do whatever you want with it.

Because, it's just not going to work. Every good copywriter will know that his or her writing needs to be used in a certain way.

We’re writing for a certain target market, and it needs to get in front of the right people. And, if it's not in front of the right people, it's not going to work.

So, copywriters that just say, “yes, send me a bunch of money. I’ll write whatever you want.”

Send it to you, and move on with their life, and they don't care what happens to the copy after.

Those are bad copywriters. You do not want them. They're not interested in knowing about your business and how to market to your customers.

They just want to take your money and give you some words. Well, that's not how good copywriters work. That's not how I work. We're going to have consultations.

So, we make sure that everything is moving in your marketing strategy. It's all flowing together, and when I write the copy, it's going to be for specific points in that strategy.

So, that when your customers gets to that point in their journey, when they come across the copy I write, they're ready to read it.

If somebody's - if I write copy for people that are just ready to buy, but somebody stumbles across and he's never seen you before, it's not going to work.

But, if somebody's gone through the process of getting to know you, to like you, to trust you, and then they get to the copy I write - which is to make the sale. That's when they're going to be ready. Same thing at the beginning.

I mean, if somebody's ready to buy from you, and they're reading copy that says “hey connect with me on LinkedIn”.

”I already did that. This is a waste of my time.” They've already been to that point.

So, the copy sits in very specific points in the customer journey. And so, I need to be in a consultation role to make sure that it's all going together correctly.

In my consultations, I'll also include other resources you might need, other talents you might need. I am a copywriter and marketing consultant.

I don't do web design. I'm not - I create my own videos, but I'm not a video professional.

I mean, if that's something you want from me, we may be able to work something out. But, I'm just saying, I'm not a pro at this. There's people out there who devote their life to creating great video.

I'm not one of them. I devote my time and my passion to writing words that move people through the customer journey to make your products move as well.

I can get them to buy your products and services. So, I don't do all these other things. If you want to hire a full agency, a full service agency. They're going to have all those people.

But, you are going to be paying a lot of extra money to have access to that full-scale agency model. And, as a freelancer, we're able to keep our costs lower.

But, we are also working, quite often, on a more individual skill basis. And the thing is, that depending on what you're trying to market, you might not need all the other skills.

I might be able to take care of a lot of the different things you need. What I'm going at here is, I'll help you identify resources and other talents that you need to make sure that your plan  moves forward in an appropriate manner.

Consultation will also allow me to help you plan out the strategy. If you already have a strategy in place, you just need a copywriter, I still require the consultation role.

So, I can go look at your strategy and help you decide where the copy I'm writing needs to fit. If you already know your strategy right down and you're like, ”you know what, I don't need a consultation.

I know where this copy needs to go and just write this copy do the research write this copy”. That's fine, too.

If you understand marketing strategy, you just need somebody to write the words. That's fine.

But, I still need to go in and analyze to make sure you do know what you're doing. And, that might just take one consultation session where I say, “Okay, this is just to make sure you understand what you're doing. And, I understand that you know what you're doing”.

And, once that's established, then I can just be your writer. But, if I go in there, and you're out to lunch. Well, we may have to have a few more consultation sessions to make sure that you get things straightened out.

It's all individual. It's all dependent on your situation, on how much consultation will be needed. And, I don't want to do more consultation than you need.

I mean honestly, I get paid for that, but I don't want to give you more than you need. Once again, it's not good for my reputation to be known as somebody who just stretches out the consultations.

And, it's not good for you, and I don't want anybody feeling bad in this relationship. So, I very much want to make sure this working relationship is mutually beneficial for everybody, and everybody comes out feeling great about it.

So, that's how I work, and I hope you are okay with that, and I hope you like that, and I hope you're relieved to know that somebody actually wants to get involved to know your marketing plan.

And maybe help you establish that in an even more solid manner.
