The Red Dead Redemption Review

The Red Dead Redemption Review
Spoiler Alert!!!So I finished Red Dead Redemption tonight. What a game. If you are into westerns, if you like guns, if you like good old adventure, and some blood, this game is for you.The storyline was amazing. The ending surprising. I want to let you know as much as I can without spoiling to much. So I'll do the best I can.So you start off the game as John Marston. Ex gang member of the Van Der Linde game, ran by a man called Dutch. I'm pretty sure his last name is Van Der Linde. I'm guessing Dutch is a nick name considering, as you can tell from the last name, that he is probably of Dutch descent. You, John Marston, tried to leave the gang after they left you for dead. You tried to start a farm with your wife and child Jack. But the young American Government is getting a hold in the old west and would really like your help getting rid of the bandits and low lifes so they can "civilize" the west. They want your help so much so that they took your wife and child away and told you that you better track down your old gang and kill them, or you won't get your family back, your farm will be taken away, and your own life ended. So of course, in good old sensible fashion, John Marston plays along. Now that's where the game starts. You, looking for your first old brother in arms, Bill Williamson. You attempt to take him on right of the bat, you get shot down and left for dead again. Luckily a ranchers daughter and a ranch hand find you, and being more kindly then most in those parts, load you up in the back of their wagon, and take you home to their ranch where they fix you all up and better.Congrats, your first friends have been made. The game progresses. You learn how to heard cattle, hunt, skin animals, pick herbs. You work with an old fraud trying to sell miracle medicine to the unknowing and uneducated public. You work with grave diggers, rob trains, rob stage coaches, save trains, save stage coaches. You compete in poker matches, horse races, wagon races, shooting competitions, dice games, arm wrestles, finger fillet. All of this adds up to be almost like watching an old western with John Wayne right up there in the front. But it's not John Wayne. Its John Marston. You eventually go to Mexico, meet up with an old Gunslinger who teaches you some tricks. You help win a Mexican revolution. It's all very exciting. You fight in large battles, siege fortresses, fire cannons, Gatling guns. You can be a good cowboy, or a bad one. Good is probably easier. You get cheaper prices at the general store. You don't have a posse chasing you all the time. Nobody is trying to collect your bounty. As you can see if your bad, all that does happen and your general store prices rise up. People run away screaming from you.Did I mention the Lasso. You get one. You can lasso many things. Horses, people, wolves... yes I said wolves. I even got a cougar once. Watch out for the cougar's they'll come out of nowhere and attack you, taking your horse down in one hit.You can break wild mustangs and keep them for yourself. Or you can work as a horse breaker. When you lasso a man, you can drag him around with your horse, or hogtie him.All this is just some of the things you can do in this game. It's in open sand box mode, just like GTA, so you can roam around as you please. The ending is where things get good, but slow down. Once you get your gang out of the way, and the government agents give back your family, you spend time bonding with your son Jack, and your Wife Abigail. You work with your lazy farm hand Uncle, a really old man.Things are slow for a bit and you can't help but wonder if this is it for the rest of the game, or does something else happen eventually. Your status will say you still have 70% of the game left. Then when you think that this is what comprises of the rest of the game... things heat up.I'm not going to go into the ending. Lets say it will leave you wanting more of Red Dead Redemption.I hope the review helps. GET THIS GAME !
